In order to get a clean, stretchable and symmetrical border I did some modifications to the pattern:

1. CO 5 sts.

2. knit all sts, sl last st with yarn in front.

3. knit first st, purl 1, yo, purl to last 2 sets, yo, purl 1, sl last st with yarn in front. Repeat this for all odd rows.

4. Change color. Knit 2, yo, knit to marker as set in the original pattern, m1R, sl marker, knit 1, m1L, knit to last 2 sts, yo, knit 1, sl last st with yarn in front. Repeat this for all even rows.

!Knit every first st very loosely to get a stretchy border!

I made some serious mistakes in the lace part. But against all odds I don’t care. :)
