Cabled hat worked from the bottom (fold-up brim) to the top. After working 1x1 ribbing and a turning row, there is a set-up row that increases stitches in each of the six sections in order to accommodate the cables.

One more increase at each edge establishes the full width of the scarf, which is worked with only knit and purl stitches until the final edge decreases and shaping the final points.

Lacy scarf for all of your frabjous tea parties begins with a six-row lace edging in color 1. Stitches for the main scarf are picked up along the straight edge of the lace, then the main scarf is worked in colors 2, 3 and 4. Color 5 is then used to work the second lace border which is attached to the bound-off edge of the scarf.
