I used c2c stitch and just did a simple sc border in black.

I made in c2c using caron simply soft tweed in cream and brown, caron simply soft strawberry for nose and ears and brown for eye lashes. Ruffle border (2hdc in each st) in brown tweed, the 1 hdc in each stitch in strawberry then again 1 hdc in each stitch with brown tweed.
