Multiple strands used together can give subtle colour variations and be used as higher yarn weight, eg.:

  • 2 strands together can be used as 4ply/fingering on 2.5-2.75mm needles
  • 3 to 4 strands together can be used as 8ply/DK or light worsted weight

Please note: ATW is in the process of changing over the wool used in the yarns. Some colours are only available in the new yarn, and from 2012 our dyer will be using the new Eco Wool exclusively.

Eco Wool: All new dyelots from 2012 will be the new “eco wool” which is grown using environmentally sustainable and humane animal practices (absolutely no mulesing). Border Leicester/Merino wool, spun as 2/13 yarn.

Previous wool: Until late 2011, the Workshop used a 3/20 worsted yarn from Corriedale crossbred sheep. This yarn is still available in many colours.

The new 2/13 yarn has a visibly tighter twist than the old 3/20 yarn. The two yarns can be used interchangeably for many projects, however if you foresee that the different yarns will matter in your project, please contact the Workshop by phone, email or in person to discuss and choose matching dyelots/yarn type.

Do you knit or crochet with this yarn? We’d love to hear how you use it – send us a message here on Rav or email us on contact@austapestry.com.au with questions or feedback.
