Six years ago the Schoharie Valley was devastated by flooding from Hurricane Irene. The area, already saturated from rain, received 18 inches in a short period of time. Farms, homes and businesses that had never flooded before were under several feet of water. The damage caused by the flood was overwhelming, both emotionally and economically. Fortunately, groups like SALT (Schoharie Area Long Term) formed to coordinate the hundreds of volunteers, donations, and supplies and get the help to those in need.

The Schoharie Valley has come a long way since the flood, and SALT continues to provide a vital role in building up this resilient community.

Schoharie Valley Rising yarn is a collaboration of SALT and CeCe’s Wool. The yarn is made from NY Corriedale wool and spun at Battenkill Fiber. It is professionally dyed by Kelly Shultes using the painting, ‘Schoharie Rising’ which was painted after the flood by Elizabeth Apgar-Smith for inspiration. All of the proceeds for this yarn support SALT’s community development fund where they continue to help families and businesses re-build.

When you purchase this yarn, know that your economic footprint is being felt right here in Schoharie Valley. Thank you for being part of our community.

This beautiful yarn is incredibly soft and squishy. It’s a two-ply, heavy worsted weight and each skein is 100 grams, 190 yards.
