Blackbeard's Revenge

Hand dyed Corriedale in deep red and murky black, hand spun thick and thin and felted. Inspired by the Legend of dreaded Pirate, Blackbeard, this 120 yd skein is the “full sized” version of one of our samples featured in the September Phat Fiber Box (www.phatfiber.com).
What does one do with a felted single? Well…you knit it up like any other single! It’s Corriedale, and although it’s lightly felted, you may want to wash your finished project gently by hand in cold water and lay it to air dry…unless you wish to felt it further (in which case, ignore what I just said).
This would also be a great addition to costumes for Faire! Add it to hairpieces, collars, or hip adornments.
So, check it out, in the 18th century, there was this crazy tall, totally psychotic Pirate dude named Blackbeard. His exploits were legendary (clearly, that’s why I’m telling you about him). One time, he shot his first mate, yaknow, just to remind people how ruthless he was. As if setting brimstone on fire and locking himself and his crew in a room, to play ‘see how long we can live in hell’ wasn’t scary enough. This is a guy who, before boarding other ships, would pull some fuses out of his hat, tie them to his hair and beard with bright red ribbons (Admit it- any guy who can pull off red ribbons in his hair is FIERCE!) and then light them. Imagine, if you will, a giant, haggard looking man, red ribbons in his beard, sparks flying out his face, smoke everywhere, numerous pistols cocked, strapped to his chest and ready to go, and tons of daggers adorning his waist. SCARY, AMIRITE?? (okay- you… the one who just said - OMG HAWT. SIT DOWN!) Fact is, there are no verified accounts of him actually killing anyone. Talk about fueling your own barbaric reputation! If Google was around in the 18th century, I’d imagine Ol’ Blackbeard would “egosurf” frequently, probably slipping little anonymous stories into forums all over the internet and creating an “I Hate Blackbeard” Facebook group. You know he would!
(Any allegations that the author of this story was paid a promotional fee for any facts relating to the artist formerly known as Blackbeard are completely untrue!)
