Nomad camel yarn is produced from two-humped Bactrian camels and is handspun by the nomads from the Gobi Desert in Mongolia, either on a spinning wheel or on a drop spindle. This is the only market venue for these exquisite handspun camel yarns, other than dumping the fiber into China. A portion of the proceeds from each sale of Nomad camel yarn is returned to the tribe to help the herder women form cooperatives through which their skill, talent and unique handspun yarns can grow and flourish.

The skein label is signed personally by the member of the tribe who spun the yarn. Being handspun, and produced directly from the camels that they herd, skeins will vary slightly in length, texture and color.

The variance in the skein texture and color produces garments and accessories that have a unique look and feel about them, making them truly one-of-a-kind treasures. Key properties of interest with respect to Nomad camel yarn are the following:
