Doc Mason is a veterinarian living in the hills of New Hampshire. His farm is a stockdog training facility, with 30 to 40 sheep whose job is to train and rehabilitate working sheep dogs. I collect their fleeces, as well as a few fleeces from Doc Mason’s farm calls (all in central NH), and have them milled at MacAusland’s Woollen Mill on Prince Edward Island.

Doc Mason’s Wool is a classic 2-ply woolen-spun with an oatmeal color. The blend is 75% Clun Forest and the remaining 25% is a mix of Romney, Shetland, Cheviot, Baby Doll, BFL, and Alpaca.

The wool is toasty warm and medium weight, perfect for hats, mittens, and New England style rustic sweaters. It suits many gauges: I like to work it at 15 to 16 stitches per 4 inches. There are 210 yards in one 4 ounce skein.
