Possmerino is a very special blend of New Zealand possum fur fibres and non-superwash merino wool. Possums are an introduced species in New Zealand and cause significant environmental damage. Luckily for us however, their fur is incredibly soft, light and warm and when combined with merino wool makes exquisite yarn.

This yarn will soften over time as the possum fibres gradually work their way to the surface as you knit and wear your item. These possum fibres will form a wonderfully soft halo. My experience knitting with it is that it does shed a little, but not excessively.

The natural undyed colour of this yarn is a heathered grey/brown, and as a result colours dyed on top tend to come out a little darker and slightly more organic looking. Additionally, the lack of superwash treatment makes colours slightly less variegated and saturated than they would on superwash yarns, but only slightly. This base takes the dye really very well for a non-superwash yarn.
