This is a fun way to use up your bits and pieces! The hat at top fits a baby, and was knit in the round with scraps of Rowan Pure Wool 4-ply and bits of Frog Tree Alpaca. The little pink and red hat in the second photo was made in several worsted weight yarns. I have made these hats out of many types of yarn (even bulky) with great results. And you never know exactly how it will look!

It is best to use scraps of varying lengths for this hat. Each time you pick up a new piece, you reverse the stockinette, creating an interesting--and always unique--textural pattern, because you are adding a new piece when and where the last one runs short…

Detailed, step-by-step instructions are available as a Ravelry download. For those of you who just need very general guidelines, please see this blog post…http://pwaknits.blogspot.com/2009/09/scrappy-little-hat.html

I am rather new to pattern writing and would love your input…Were the instructions clear? Were they easy to follow? Were you happy with the results? Any feedback is greatly appreciated…and of course, I would love to see YOUR “scrappy little hat”!

9/23/09 I have corrected a couple minor errors on the .pdf file.

12/14/2009 For those of you who don’t look forward to weaving in so many ends, please check out this wonderful tutorial by fellow Raveler CailynDragon http://dailyskein.wordpress.com/2008/05/05/weaving-in-ends/
Although I don’t use this technique, I know many who absolutely swear by it!
