This hat is perfect for those half balls you have left over, when a colour is just so scrumptious you need to find another project for it. Any worsted weight yarn that knits to a gauge of 20 stitches over 4 inches will work beautifully.

I made this hat for a friend of mine who is a fierce advocate, warrior and fellow baby catcher. She envelops everyone she knows in her special brand of mama bear while still holding space for others and for ritual.

When I was thinking about what card most accurately represents her, I was drawn over and over to the Artist of Pentacles, also known as the Queen of Pentacles.

Yarn:
Main Colour (Brown): madelinetosh “Vintage” in Pecan Hull (100% merino, 210 yards/192 meters, 100g per skein), I used 55g which is 116 yards/106 meters.
Contrast Colour (Blue): Malabrigo “Rios” in Teal Feather (100% merino, 210 yards/192 meters, 100g per skein), I used 50g which is 105 yards/96 meters.

Needles:
4mm (US 6) 16 inch circular
4.5mm (US 7) 16 inch circular.
4.5mm (US 7) double pointed needles.

Gauge:
20 stitches and 28 rows over 4 inches in stockingette stitch using 4.5mm needles.

Measurements:
18 inches around brim, 9 inches from cast-on to top of hat.
