The icy winds gather such strength as they whip across the low-lying Fens that they chill right to the core. When the winds drop, as happens from time-to-time, winter is pleasant, mild, with just the right amount of bite.

This shawl is designed for such changeable weather. A heavy dk or worsted weight yarn for winter warmth, a 4ply or lightweight DK for days that hint of spring.

The lace pattern grows organically from the side and centre increases and is worked throughout the shawl.

Pattern is both fully charted & has full written directions.

SIZING
Green shawl (heavy DK/worsted): 155cm x 70cm / 62in x 28in.

Blue shawl (4ply/light DK): 140cm x 65cm / 56in x 26in

YARN REQUIREMENTS (approx)
Approximately 340m (450m) of any 4ply/lightweight DK (heavy DK/worsted) yarn, depending on size and thickness of shawl required.

GAUGE & NEEDLES
You will need a 60cm/24in (or longer) circular needle. Use a needle at least 0.5-0.75mm (2-3 sizes) bigger than you would usually use for your chosen yarn. Getting an exact gauge is not crucial.

The blue sample was knit using a 4mm/US6 needle.

The green sample was knit using a 5mm/US8 needle.

NOTES
Pattern is detailed and includes (amongst other things):

  • 3 charts for lace set-up, shawl body & edging
  • line-by-line written instructions
