These mini Christmas stockings are available in 4 variations: plain, contrast heel, mesh/shell leg and full mesh/shell stocking. The ‘shell’ uses htr (US: hdc) but the plain stocking is simply dc (US: sc), so this pattern is suitable for beginners. The only difficulty is remembering to keep track of your stitch count because of the short rows!

Aran or worsted weight yarn is recommended and will make a stocking about 4 inches tall, excluding hanging loop. DK or light worsted is also acceptable and produces a stocking about 3 to 3.5 inches tall.

Pattern terms are given in UK (British) language, with US equivalents in the glossary of abbreviations. Turns and ‘turning chains’ have been specified in the pattern; where there are no turns (literally: turning your work around, to work back across the row) or ‘turning chains’ (initial chains, at the start of a round or row), please do not add any! ;)
