When I was a young girl, my mother spoke of her own mother often. She told us all kinds of stories about neat things they did together and how her mother would have been had she been alive when my sister and I were children. My grandma passed away from breast cancer four years before I was born. In my teens, that disease struck our family again when my mom found a lump and was also diagnosed with breast cancer. My mom made it through all the treatment and went on to live another ten years before she passed away from heart disease.

My family history makes these causes very dear to my heart. I wanted to create a pattern that would show my support and also allow others to knit awareness items for causes that are important to them. This pattern was written in a way that any color can be used for the ribbons.

All monies raised from the sale of this pattern during the month of September and October will be donated to the Susan G. Komen For the Cure Foundation.
