A career in structural engineering may seem a far cry from crochet design, but for me it doesn’t matter if I am building a concrete building or a granny square blanket. My approach to designing them is the same. I take a big project and break it down into little items that I can understand, then piece them back together for the big picture.
In my book Blueprint Crochet: Modern Designs for the Visual Crocheter (Interweave Press, 2008), I used my engineering background and crochet symbols to bring crochet to new learners. My patterns in Mission Falls Goes Crochet are for the whole family, and a new book of modern baby projects is due out in Winter 2010. Catch me as one of the crochet experts on “Knit and Crochet Now” on PBS. Please stop on by my blog to check up on what’s inspiring me lately, or stop by the Crochet by Faye Group here at Ravelry.
