An Americana “twist” on a popular headband style!

I had leftover cotton yarn in red, white and blue, so I decided to design my own 4th of July headband. Of course, this would be great to wear anytime!

Headband is knitted flat and then the two ends are sewn to make the twist. Gauge is not too important. I used worsted weight yarn and a #8 needle to get a headband 2.5” wide. The edges do curl slightly, but I designed this to maintain the look of the 13 stripes of the flag. Feel free to use a different edging or yarn that will block nicely.

If you have never knit this style of headband before, you may find it helpful to look at other free patterns with more details for how to size and sewing the ends for the twist. I tried my best to explain, but do not have pictures of the process which are very helpful.

This is my first published pattern, so I hope it is clear and you enjoy it!
