Agnes, A Crocheted Advent Wrap
On Christmas morning in 1975, my paternal grandmother, (named Clenstine, but she went by Agnes), gave my sister and me matching twin-sized Catherine Wheel afghans crocheted in four shades of pink acrylic, ranging from pale petal to bright bubblegum.
Catherine Wheel has been my favorite crochet pattern ever since.
I love its simple repeating circles and how it fills my heart with memories of simpler times spent watching my grandmother, hook in hand, flowing with ease through every stitch.
Agnes is my tribute to her and a small thank you for all she taught me. I updated the color palette and shape, and used a butter-soft Merino blend, but everything I loved about the rhythm of the circles is still there in spades.
Yarn: One Barker Wool Advent box containing twenty-four 20g mini skeins and one 100g skein of Fern or approximately 580g of fingering weight yarn in contrasting colors.
Finished Measurements: approx. 17” wide x 65” long
Hook: US F (3.75 mm)
Gauge: 2 complete wheel motifs x 3 pattern repeats = 4” x 4” in Catherine Wheel pattern.
