This scary sock pattern was designed exclusively for Super Sock Scarefest 2023. It will be available for purchase after the end of Scarefest (in mid-November).

The socks, named for the book seen in the film, are inspired by Rosemary’s Baby (1968). The patterning on the socks is designed to evoke the tannis root charm that Rosemary is given by neighbour Minnie. It incorporates a ridged feather stitch and threaded ribbing to suggest the filigree design of the charm and its chain.

The stitch patterning is designed to work with, and potentially show off, the colour changes in variegated, multicoloured, or heavily speckled yarns. As Rosemary jumbles up the Scrabble letters to solve the anagram in the film, the feather increases and purl decreases will jumble up the colours.

The pattern was designed using a yarn that captures the range of Rosemary’s various coloured clothing. But it will work equally well with semi-solid or tonal yarns if you want to use, say, a silver colour yarn like the charm itself.
