I recently visited an exhibition of traditional Ukranian Folk costumes, where I fell in love with the way the women’s garments are embellished with different embroideries and ribbons, creating a very decorative and festive feel. The stitch patterns combined in this dress were inspired by these costumes.

To work out the tension you need, measure your chest volume below bust. Half of this measurement will be the desired length for the beginning rows of bodice pieces, and a sixth of this measurement is the desired length for the first few rows of the skirt pieces. To work out the right hook/tension for you, make a swatch 37 foundation half treble (fhtr) stitches long, and around a few half treble rows high. The 37 stitch swatch should equal one sixth of your chest volume below the bust.
