Arc of the Hypotenuese
Pattern is both charted and written.
Very versatile fully reversible, with a unique shape. Easy and fast to knit up with only 180yds of super bulky yarn as shown! Can actually be made on any size needles and compatible yarn. Looks great with DK on US 6 (4mm) or with superduper bulky on US 35 (19mm). Just knits and purls no special knowledge required.
This is an interesting stitch pattern of alternating -2 row /5 st ‘bars of knits then purls moving zigzag fashion across a base design of K1 P1 ribbing. The movement of the bars across causes a natural slight scalloping at the lengthwise edges, which I have accentuated with a ‘hard’ or ‘shaping’ block finish, you do not have to block the piece (I have pictures of the unblocked look included at the end of the pattern -and here- also pix of the best placement of the blocking pins for the fuller scalloped effect) but I do feel it completes the look.
Pattern name comes from the look of the arced edges and the triangle look to zigzagging ‘bars’ reminding me of the method of using arc drawn with a compass to figure the angles for a right triangle from just the hypotenuese. SCARY GEEKY I know!
