“Ba-Da Bing” is my favorite pattern so far in my design career mainly due to the lovely women that took part in the KAL. This pattern started as a KAL in February of this year which officially ends on March 18, 2012. To find out more about the KAL take a look at the “gurls of fresh purls” group and look at the Mystery Shawl KAL forum. The knitters who took part in the KAL created some of the prettiest pieces I have seen in a long time. Their color choices are all unique and gorgeous. To see their creations look at Mystery Shawl KAL. This pattern will be free till April first and the PDF is 10 pages long. After April 1st there will be a $5 cost to download.
Gauge is not critical…don’t you love reading that? The directions help you decide what skein to use first and since you only cast on 7 stitches you will get a good feel for how the yarn knits up. The shawl primarily uses sock yarn (3 different colors where each skein has roughly 400 yards) but there are also 2 sport weight colors used (300 yards roughly for each color is needed). The use of sport weight yarn gives the shawl interesting texture. US 7 needles are used throughout the shawl and creates an elegant drape due to the nature of the sock yarn.
This project is a tremendous stash buster. Have fun making your color decisons. I hope this design brings you as much happiness that it has brought me. Enjoy xo
