This hat is perfect for a day at the beach, hunting for seashells! The brim will keep the sun out of your eyes, the solid top will keep the sun out, and the mesh sides let the shore breezes in to keep you cool. Brim shape is created through geometry, tight gauge and double layers – no cardboard or plastic!

The brim’s structural integrity comes from the recommended cast on, the tight gauge, shaping, and leaving the wraps in place unless otherwise specified.

Materials:
Yarn: Hat can be made in either dk weight (300 yds, 2 strands held together), or worsted weight; choose a fiber like a hemp blend, with a fairly firm hand so the hat will hold its structure
Needles: 2 sz. 6 16” circular needles, sz. 6 double points, set of 5
1 stitch marker
Sample was knitted in Elsebeth Lavold’s Hempathy, 34% hemp, 41% cotton, 25% modal; 50g = 140m/153yds; 2 strands held together, 2 skeins
