Ss into the next st. From here you are just continuing to do first earflap.

Earflaps
Row 1 - Hdc in the same st (where your last slip stitch is and where you left
of). Hdc 7 more for (newborn, 3-6m), 8 more for (6-12m, 12m-3y) 9 more for
(child, adult). Chain 1, turn.
Row 2: Hdc 2 together, hdc 1 in each st across. Ch 1, turn.
Repeat row 2 until you have 3 st left. Fasten off.
Fold your hat in half and measure where other earflap will be placed.
Join your yarn to the hat and repeat above instructions to make a second
earflap.
Once both earflaps are completed, join a contrast yarn in the middle back of
your hat and sc around the whole hat (and earflaps).
Braids (make 2)
Cut 24 strands 45” long. Loop through bottom of earflap and secure it by
pulling it tight. Braid it to get desired length. Make a knot at the end of the
braid to secure it once again, trim the ends.
