This adorable dog hat will keep your child’s head very warm during the cold winter months. The main portion of the hat uses double-stranded yarn, so divide a skein into two balls. Do not double the yarn while knitting the earflaps or the ears. They will automatically double because of the knitting techniques used. A Turkish Cast-on* was used for the earflaps to prevent the ends from curling out. It also gives the hat a finished look. Hobby Lobby’s “I Love This Yarn” (worsted – 100% acrylic) was used for this project. A little black worsted yarn is used for the nose, mouth and “eyebrows,” so you may find some already in your yarn stash! The instructions for the hat are basically the same for all sizes because of its stretchiness. Simply knit more rows of the main portion before crown decreases for a 2-4 year old child.

Instructions for the Turkish Cast-on are given, but the Internet is always a good source for further instructions and videos.
