Bramble Shawl
BRAMBLE SHAWL
Bramble combines a striking stitch pattern with easy-going garter stitch. The vine-like motif and lace border create a detailed and eye-catching design, while the generous size gives it plenty of drape without feeling heavy.
The pattern is written for experienced (or adventurous beginner) lace knitters and includes both charts and written instructions. The lace edging is worked sideways for added interest, and the overall construction balances complexity with a rewarding finish. Light yet substantial, this shawl is a satisfying project and a versatile accessory.
The size can be adjusted by working a smaller/larger garter stitch section and by working more/fewer repeats of the lace motif. Instructions on how to alter the size are included in the pattern.
Size
150 cm × 75 cm / 59 in × 30 in (wingspan × height)
The pattern is modular so you can make a bigger or smaller shawl. Different gauges will affect the size as well.
Yarn
The sample shawl is worked in Samelin Dyeworks BFL Silk Lace in the colourway Nostalgic Rose.
You need about 560 m / 620 yds of a lace weight yarn to meet gauge.
The pattern is modular and suitable for different yarns and gauges.
Gauge and needles
21.5 sts × 33 row = 10 × 10 cm (4 × 4 in) worked flat in garter stitch, after washing and blocking.
Recommended needle size is 4 mm / US 6, or size to obtain desired gauge.
The pattern uses a combination of written instructions and charts. There are written transcripts of the charts available (included in the pattern download). This means you don’t need to be able to read charts in order to work with this pattern! All measurements in the pattern are given in metric and imperial.
