This is a pattern designed for the World Oceans Day collaboration between The Loop and the Ecology Action Centre Halifax.

Brittle stars are Echinoderms of the class Ophiuroidea. This particular critter was modelled after one photographed by researchers in the Sable Gully Marine Protected Area, off the coast of Nova Scotia. You can see lots of images of this beautiful North Atlantic coral reef here.
