Sunshine, daisies, butter mellow
Turn this stupid, fat rat yellow
- Ronald Weasley, Harry Potter & the Sorcerer’s Stone

This simple lace and garter stitch cowl has nothing to do with rats, and everything to do with using a single precious skein of fingering weight yarn! Knit the pattern as-is for a smaller skein, or see my note below to use up every scrap of your yarn.

The Butter Mellow Cowl features an intuitive lace pattern that you’ll get the hang of fast. This is vacation knitting at it’s best--easy, enjoyable, and very rewarding with a quickly-finished cowl you’ll love to wear! Use it to add a pop of color to a summer outfit without getting too warm.

Note: As written, and with my gauge, the cowl uses approximately 300 yds of fingering weight. That means each lace repeat uses approximately 75 yds, in case you would like to extend the length of your cowl.
