Here are two knitting patterns to make Calidris the Western Sandpiper in both sitting and flying positions.

Calidris (Callie for short) is very simple to knit in her sitting position - she is knitted flat on 4mm using DK yarn. Embroider on her feather details after knitting the bird to create a custom Callie of your own!

Flying Calidris has soaring wings which are supported with pipe cleaners - photo instructions are given in the PDF and both knitting patterns contain reference photos to help you on your way.

Calidris has been created for the Net Loft’s Copper River Delta Birds By Hand project, which will celebrate the annual migration of birds and fisherfolk to Cordova, Alaska. They are aiming to create a display of over 1000 knitted and hand-made birds from all over the world, to engage and connect knitters and crafters, and help appreciate migratory birds and their incredible journeys.
