A loose gauge and simple lace stitch make for an open and breezy look. The lace stitch adds elegance and vintage charm.

This cardigan is worked from the top down in one piece. The sleeves are picked up at the armholes and worked top down and in the round. The front bands and neck edges are picked up and worked at the end.

This pattern uses a provisional cast-on and it uses short rows to shape the shoulders and sleeve caps.

Sizes XS (S, M, L, XL, XXL, XXXL)
Bust measurements of the garment when buttoned: 32 (36, 40, 44, 48, 52, 56) inches, 81 (91, 102, 112, 122, 132, 142) cm. Size S is shown on model in photo.

Yarn:
Madelinetosh, Tosh DK (100% superwash merino wool); 100g/225 yards (206meters). Paper: 4 (4, 4, 5, 5, 6, 6) skeins.

Or use any yarn of similar weight that achieves gauge 721 (799, 883, 998, 1091, 1227, 1310) yards 659 (731, 807, 913, 998, 1122, 1198) meters.

Yarn Note: The yarn used is typically worked with smaller needles for a gauge of 5 sts per inch. Larger needles were used for a looser gauge to create a very open lace look. If you substitute the yarn, and desire the same open lace look, use a yarn that usually achieves a gauge of 5 sts per inch. See gauge information and always work a gauge swatch first.

Gauge
16 sts x 26 rows = 4 x 4 inches (10 x 10 cm) in dimple eyelet stitch with larger needles.
18 st x 28 rows = 4 x 4 inches (10 x 10 cm) in stockinette stitch with larger needles.
Pay most attention to the gauge of the dimple eyelet stitch for a good fit.
