Boyer Lattice Car Seat Blanket was inspired by dear friend who couldn’t find a good car seat blanket pattern for her expected first grandchild. This design allows car seats straps and buckles to pass through the lattice, but doesn’t look like a blanket with a hole in it when you are using it outside of the car.

It is a fairly easy pattern, worked entirely in garter stitch. Note that, although you will be using a circular needle, you are not knitting in the round. You will create three horizontal strips of the ‘lattice’, then go back and knit vertical strips and weave them in and out as you would when making a lattice design on the top of a pie. I found that a stitch counter was helpful to count rows, keeping strip sizes consistent.

I used two 300 gram skeins of Bernat Baby Blanket “Sweet and Fresh” in Sweet Cream color. My finished blanket weighed 474 grams.

I also made this pattern with Bernat “Pipsqueak” and, although the blanket was very soft, the lattice work drooped a bit and the stitches were difficult to see.
