Cardita is an extremely pretty infant cardigan that includes a pronounced seashell design below the yoke and through the length of the sleeves. This cardigan is sure to be a treasured family heirloom! Knit from the top down, this seamless cardigan is a quickly knit project ideal for baby’s first sweater or as a gift up to baby’s first birthday. Using worsted weight yarn, the body of the sweater is knit first, then the sleeves are knit flatly and seamed to finish.

The written pattern includes sizing for 0-3 months, 3-6 months, and 6-12 months, and since the sizing is done based upon variations in chest size, it is virtually impossible to knit a sweater that is too small for baby. The combination of the warmth and wash-ability of worsted weight acrylic yarn, in conjunction with the feminine stitch simplicity of stockinette and seashell lace, makes Cardita the perfect cold weather accessory for any baby.

Sizing:
Small: 0-3 months (up to 14.5-inch chest; 6-inch neck circumference)
Medium: 3-6 months (15 to 17-inch chest; 7-inch neck circumference)
Large: 6-12 months (17 to 19-inch chest; 8-inch neck circumference)

This sweater was knit in all three sizes using Brava worsted, but any worsted weight yarn would be fine for this pattern. A little more than one skein was required for the largest size (about 260 yds.).

The pattern is sized according to chest size rather than by clothing size, which ensures that you will have a finished product that can be worn more than once. The pattern calls for circular needles because this is a seamless, top-down sweater.
