This versatile, cozy scarf was inspired by the elegance and wit of Celia Bowen, the protagonist in The Night Circus, by Erin Morgenstern. Though Celia lives in magic, this scarf is grounded in nothing but basic stitches.

Worked in the round in worsted weight yarn with an off-centre band of the simplest lace, the scarf should take only a few days to complete.

Beginning 19th January 2012, I’m donating $1 from every sale of this pattern to 350.org, a fabulous organization that’s building a global movement to solve the climate crisis.

Note: To adjust the circumference of the scarf, add or subtract an even number of stitches.

Errata: (Corrected in the PDF on 10th January 2012) In the Stitch Guide, the instructions for Subsequent foundation double crochets should include an initial yarn over: “Yo and insert hook in chain made in last fdc, yo and pull up a loop, yo and draw through 1 loop on hook (chain made), (yo and draw through 2 loops on hook) 2 times.”
