Banded, cabled hat, named for the Chemung River and valley in the Southern Finger Lakes Region of New York State. Pronounced shə-MUNG, it is a tributary of the Susquehanna River, approximately 46.4 miles (74.7 km) long. The name of the river comes from the Iroquois language meaning “big horn” or “horn-in-the-water”, dating from the discovery of large mammoth tusks in the river bed.

The brim is worked as a separate piece, and as such, you have the option of not using it.
