“No one knows who originally conceived of making owls with cabling but when I opened my first yarn shop in 1962 a dear and elderly customer came in to wish me well and gave me her hand written copy of the owls. From this worn and dog-eared direction I designed this cardigan. Now in its eighth printing, Owl has continued to be a cherished and popular design through the decades. Grown women have asked for an adult version – I’m working on it!

For the confident beginner or Intermediate knitter, it is knit on #5 needles, and the owls show to best advantage when worked with smooth-worsted spun wool, cotton or a blend of these fibers. The hardest part of making Owl is sewing on all 16 tiny pearl buttons for the owls’ eyes while keeping them perfectly vertical! Owls’ eyes button packs are available for purchase; details are on our website.
Sizes 2 – 8. Available in baby sizes in fingering wt, #B818.”
