A small dog cardigan that buttons at the back, making it easier to dress your tiny pooch for cold weather. Perfect for the pup with front leg mobility challenges. Made with pure wool and a tight gauge for extra protection from the elements.
Cardigan is knit flat, using short rows to shape around the front leg holes & back haunches. The legs are later picked up and knit in the round on DPN’s.

One size: small dog 16.5” chest.
Fits a robust chihuahua, miniature pinscher, or similar size breed.

Skill Level:intermediate
skills needed: cast on, bind off, knit, purl, increase, decrease, short rows (easy short rows), double pointed needles.

Materials:
Yarn: Paton’s Classic Wool Worsted, 100% wool
sample shown in Natural Heather
1 skein/210 yards (or 190-210 yds alt. yarn)

• US 5 (3.75 mm) straight needles
• US 5 (3.75 mm) double point needles
• US 6 (4.00 mm) needle (optional for looser BO)
• tapestry needle
• 2 stitch markers
• 5 buttons

Gauge: 18 sts x 24 rows = 4x4” (4.5 sts x 6 rows = 1x1”)
Note that gauge is tight for this yarn for added warmth. Meeting gauge with a thinner yarn will produce the proper sweater dimensions but will not be as warm.

NOTE: This pattern was designed for and tested on female dogs. Underbody shaping may need to be adjusted to accommodate a male dog’s anatomy. If you test this on a male dog, please report back to me with the results and any adjustments you needed to make so I may update the pattern.
