Cholla Cowl
This cozy, textured cowl is patterned after the wavy sinews of a cholla cactus skeleton. Much softer than its namesake, the bones of the skeleton are made with plush Merino wool while the spaces between are comprised of lighter-than-air kid mohair and silk. The deceptively simple slip stitch pattern uses only knits, purls, and slipped stitches worked with one yarn at a time. It is as equally beautiful in a
monochromatic scheme as it is in two colors as pictured here. Low contrast pairings will work just as well as high contrast ones due to the great difference in textures at play.
Yarn: 1 skein of Barker Wool Merinolux DK, 100g, 219yd in Rosie,
1 skein of Barker Wool Gossamer, 50g, 460yd in Octobers.
Needles: US Size 7 (4.5mm) or size needed to obtain correct gauge on 24” cables.
Gauge: 20 ST x 48 rows (24 garter ridges) = 4” x 4” in garter stitch.
Gauge is important to ensure adequate yardage.
Finished Size: 36” L x 11” W. Size is easily modified by adding or subtracting in multiples of 16 stitches. Yardage will need to be increased if size is increased.
