These chunky rainbow mittens are easy to knit on a medium or long circular needle using the magic loop or a set of double-pointed needles.

I have included links to Magic Loop video tutorials in the corresponding language in each file (English and French). You can knit these mittens using double-pointed needles if you prefer.

This is my Go To pattern for fingerless gloves: you can use it as a basis for more intricate designs with various wrist lengths, add cables or use a different stitch and different colours. Knit these in the round to avoid seams so they will fit snugly on your hands.

If you’d like to knit these for a child, you can use the same number of stitches with a thinner yarn and thinner needles: I have made these for my daughter in a double-knitting yarn (needle size 3.5mm and 4mm - US sizes 5 and 6) and they came out perfect for a child aged 7-11 years old. I have yet to try using Aran (worsted) weight with needles size 4.5mm and 5mm (US sizes 7 and 8) to see if they will fit a 12-16 year old.

Difficulty: Easy to Intermediate.

Skills: you need to be familiar with knitting in the round using a set of double-pointed needles or with the magic loop on a long circular needle method.

Materials:
1 skein of King Cole Riot Chunky (100g - 134m -147yds per skein) – The colour I used for the mittens shown here is Inferno - feel free to use a different yarn of similar thickness (see tension required).

one 5.5mm (US size 9) circular needle of 60cm (24in) length or longer or a set of 5.5mm (US size 9) double pointed needles;

one 6mm (US size 10) circular needle of 60cm (24in) length or longer or a set of 6mm (US size 10) double-pointed needles;

3 stitch markers (you can use tied loops of spare wool or string in contrasting colours),

1 stitch holder or a 20cm (8in) length of smooth yarn in a contrasting colour;

1 tapestry needle.
