Inspired by Waterhouse’s masterpiece Circe Invidiosa, this shawl has three sections: Circe’s bowl of potion spilling over in an asymmetrical cable, Circe’s dress, and Scylla transformed in her pool. Tricoterie’s beautiful yarn captures the transition from the poison green of Circe’s potion through the blues, greens and teals of Waterhouse’s painting. The shawl is worked in one piece from the centre back of the neck edge of the bowl down through Circe’s dress, the potion cable that started at the bowl’s edge flowing into Scylla’s edging.

Materials: Tri’Coterie Luxury Cashmere Silk, one skein or 400 metres (437 yards).

Needles: 4.5 mm (US Size 7) circular needle, 100 cm (40 inches).

Notions: One cable needle or small double pointed needle to work the centre cable, Stitch markers.

Gauge: 20 stitches over 10 cm (4 inches) in stockinette, blocked.

Finished Dimensions: 119 cm (47 inches) across the the top and 59.7 cm (23.5 inches) from top centre to bottom centre.
