The main section of Clorinda is but two rows of pattern, all structural increases occur at the edges of the shawl, so progress is quick and doesn’t require you to carry the pattern with you. The short-rows in the edging give it plenty of length to stretch out when blocked and gives a lightly ruffled effect. The pattern is adaptable to different yarn quantities (and thicknesses: this pattern does not need to be limited to standard sock weight yarn). Be aware that the model pushes the boundaries of a 100g skein to the limits. Every knitter’s gauge is a little different, so it is important to monitor the weight of your yarn as laid out in the pattern, don’t be surprised if you can’t get to quite the same width as I did, it will take only a minor difference in gauge to affect this. Don’t be put off though, gauge is not critical, just pay attention of the proportions of yarn used. Consider working the edging in a different colour if you wish to use up smaller quantities of yarn. Perhaps you have two complimenting handspun yarn; use a striping one for the body of the shawl and a semi-solid for the edging to great effect.

Pattern originally debuted as instalment one in the Vintage Purls Summer Sock Yarn Club 2013.
