Cloud-to-cloud lightning often comes at the beginning of a big thunderstorm. This inspired me to create fingerless gloves with a lightning bolt that jumps from cuff to cuff.

Twisted stitches on nearly every row create this pattern, so that a solid form moves boldly across a stockinette background.

The pattern uses a 14-row repeating chart for the lightning bolt panel. If you’re new to reading charts, don’t worry--there are only four symbols and it’s not very long!

The sizes change through switching needles, not increasing the number of stitches.

  • Choose US 6 / 4 mm needles for size S/M.
  • Choose US 7 / 4.5 mm needles for size L/XL.

Any worsted weight yarn can be substituted for KnitPicks Swish, but be sure to check the gauge.

Please post photos if you make this pattern, I’d love to see your finished mitts!
