This square neck pullover is designed with zero ease. It is knit in a top-down fashion, beginning with knitting flat to shape the yoke and square neck. Once you reach the underarms, you will begin knitting in the round by casting on the center front stitches. The neck ribbing is added after the body and sleeves have been finished. The suggested yarn is a heavier worsted to aran weight yarn.

The coffee bean pullover (version II) is a top-down modified raglan pullover. The square neck gives it character while the rest of the knit is easy and quick. There is zero ease at the chest and no waist or sleeve shaping. You may opt to knit it with 3/4 sleeves or long sleeves.

This version is an improvement on my original idea that was tested in December 2012. This pattern includes more sizes and back neck short rows. The short rows function to keep the sleeves from falling off of your shoulders.

Gauge
18 sts. x 28 rows = 4” in stockinette stitch on size US 8 (5 mm) needles (or size needed to get gauge)

Difficulty
Easy to Moderate
1) be able to read abbreviated knitting instructions.
2) know how to knit and purl, increase and decrease, cast on and bind off.
3) know how to pick up stitches from the finished neck edge to work the ribbing.
4) some knowledge of short rows. I have included a detailed photo tutorial at the end of the pattern, so hopefully the process is understandable even for a beginner.

Stitches used:
Stockinette Stitch, 2x2 ribbing.
