~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
These are not frilly, lacy blankets with gaping holes to let in the chill – nor ugly plain horse blankets fit for animal husbandry or furniture moving. (But you could make a pet blanket!)
They are warm yet beautiful, with interesting texture - easy and quick to make. No large holes to snare wee ones’ fingers and toes; sideways shells close the gap. Not so complicated you will give up in frustration, yet interesting enough to keep you going for “one more round!”
Make them in solids, or stripes, or edge them with a lovely contrasting color. The edging is no different than the other rounds; the only difference is the color you bring to it, and that last round preserves the pattern’s natural saw tooth edge, for a “show off” finish.
Choose your yarn weight – any will do, and choose your color, size and pattern. All will work out beautifully, so let’s get going!
Suggested color patterns (other than a single color):
  • Near the last few rounds, work a round of a contrasting color, then switch back to Main Color for the remaining rounds
  • Vary the last few rounds with contrasting color(s)
  • Stripe the entire blanket using two colors
  • Make a rainbow blanket with stripes in a variety of colors
  • Scrap Blanket: use up partial skeins in your stash by changing to a new color when each skein runs out
