Since I live in Kansas, I thought I would do an Oz series of Bookmarks. Here is the Cowardly Lion Reading Character Bookmark for anyone who faces their fears and discovers true bravery.

The crochet stitches include, sc, hdc, dc, tr and sl st and front loop and back loop work. The pattern includes description of abbreviations and complete instructions.

It uses small amounts of crochet thread and many colors can be used so it is a great project to use up small amounts of crochet thread (42 yards being the most that is needed).

bedspread weight cotton thread (size 10)
42 yards golden yellow (or choice of body, tail, jowls & ears color)
1 yard burgundy (or choice of badge ribbon color)
2 yards Metallic Silver size 5 thread (or choice of “badge of courage” medal color)
Small amount of black (or choice of nose color)
Small amount of dusty rose (or choice of mouth color) could also use embroidery floss
Small amount of fudge brown (or choice of eye color) could also use embroidery floss
Small amount dusty rose acrylic worsted weight yarn (or choice lion mane ribbon color)
10 yards Warm Brown acrylic Worsted Weight Yarn (or choice of lion mane color)
Small amount of polyester fiberfill.
Tapestry needle
Boye Steel Crochet hook size 1 (2.25mm) or Aluminum Hook size B
Washable fabric glue (optional).

You will need a Boye Steel Crochet hook size 1 (2.25mm) or Aluminum Crochet hook size B. This is a larger size hook than usually used with thread crochet and makes working with thread crochet easier for those who are not comfortable with thread.

The pattern includes picture tutorials.

Finished size: 3 inches (7.5cm) wide by 8 inches (20.25cm) long
