Cria is also available as part of Little Red in the City to find out more about the contents of the book follow the link above.
Cria, with its simple lines and elegant construction, has just the right amount of vintagey charm. Cute little pockets to hold something tiny and precious, a choice of short puffed sleeves or long buttoned cuffs and the combination of the crisp garter stitch yoke and soft drape of the body combine for a cardigan that’s both adorable and classic.
Sportweight or very light double knitting yarn with a suggested gauge of 6.5 sts per inch / 2.5cm. Cria is designed to use a drapey yarn, fibres such as alpaca, silk and superwash wool are ideal. These yarns are very likely to create a fabric that grows lengthwise when washed, this is taken into account in the pattern. Be sure to hang and weight your swatch. Cria features yarns worked at a fairly loose gauge, and the required stitch means that substituting heavier double knitting yarns could be a possibility, but a different row gauge will likely need to be taken into account and this will obviously create a different effect.
Altering the body length will require a change in the yarn required of approximately 3% per inch / 2.5cm for the long sleeved version and 4% per inch / 2.5cm for the short sleeved version.
