Crossing The Frame is knit in the round for the cuff and fingers, and flat for the body. The mitt, straps and thumb gussets are knitting in one piece, with the thumb knitted on after the rest of the mitt is completed.

The pattern is written to work with Knitter’s Nightmare self-striping yarn, but will work well with solid and variegated fingering weight yarn too. To make the pattern as written, you’ll need 24 buttons 1cm (half an inch) in diameter.

Skills Needed

•Basic knitting skills: knit, purl, casting on and binding off

• Make-one increasing for thumb gusset

• Holding live stitches on waste yarn and picking them up again (thumb)

• 1x1 cable cross (one per mitt)

• Sewing on buttons

• Light blocking
