In 2011 in the UK, we had rioting on a grand scale in our local area.

Operation Cup of Tea, started by Sam Pepper, was a campaign that encouraged British to stop the violence and stay indoors and make a cup of tea instead and upload a picture on their social network places to support peace instead of violence. As the windows were open, and the sounds of rioting could be heard from her studio, this had Erssie thinking; so she designed these charted motifs to encourage knitters to knit cups of tea. The charts were sold and money was donated for the clean up operation for folk who had their homes and possessions burned or their small family businesses ruined. This may seem like a whimsical subject, but we must all remember that people lost their lives, their homes, or suffered extreme violence during this frightening time.
The charts for various detailed cups of tea types are now available for you to knit for free.
