YARN USED FOR SAMPLE

Main Color

  • 2 skeins Tahki Donegal Tweed
  • 100% pure wool
  • 3.5 ounces-(100 grams)—183 yards-(167 m) each skein or approximately 250 yards-(228 m) of worsted weight yarn for Main Color
  • Contrasting Color 1- for cuff, heal and toe (crème in photo)
  • 1 pull skein Brown Sheep’s Lambs Pride Worsted
  • 85% wool—15% Mohair
  • 3.5 ounces-(100 grams)—190 yards-(173 m) each pull skein
  • Contrasting Color 2 - Approximately 75 yards-(68 m) of worsted weight yarn of Contrasting Color for four rows on cuff and whip stitching around heal and toe (black in photo)
  • Embellishments
  • 10 colors including brown for trunk of tree, 3 yards-(2.75 m) each, for Christmas tree patchwork triangles
  • Gold embroidery floss (not metallic) to whip stitch tree together and attach to stocking
  • Small amount of desired color for name

For your stocking to be the correct size, it is not the brand of yarn that matters, but the GAUGE that is important. It is best to refer to the yardage to determine how many skeins or balls to purchase

FOR A SUBSTITUTE YARN

SUGGESTED NEEDLE SIZES

  • Size 5-(3.75 mm) needles for tree
  • Size 9-(5.5 mm) ten inch straight needles
  • Size 9-(5.5 mm) double pointed needles; or size needles to obtain the correct gauge

NOTIONS

  • Gauge ruler
  • Yarn markers - number 10 crochet thread in a contrasting color is great for yarn markers
  • Tapestry needle
  • Ring markers

GAUGE

  • 20 stitches and 26 rows = 4 inch-(10 cm)—on size 9(5.5 mm)—gauge is not that important
