I call them “Day Jackets” as a tribute to the “Matinee Coats” made by our mothers and grandmothers in the days of old. But these are much easier and quicker to make. I whipped up over a dozen for charity in just a few weeks.

There are 9 sweet little designs in this pattern, 6 floral: Day Lily, Grape Hyacinth, Dianthus, Tulip, Zinnea, and Pansy; and 3 gender-neutral: Colorblock, Regatta, and Turtle Bay. All have been tested by my excellent group of testers.

All of the Day Jackets start at the neck and are worked down an increasing yoke, then divided for sleeves and Body. Buttonbands are worked after the Body, and there are no seams to sew. Probably a maximum of cuteness with a minimum of effort. Now, I must admit the Pansy design does take a bit of work, but it is worth it if you want a spectacular crochet baby sweater.

Each design can have long or short sleeves, with or without the frou-frou edging.
