My inspiration for this shawl was influenced by the tide.
Whether you look at ripples in the ocean or waves in a scallop shell, these are elements you see.

Growing up in Cape May County, NJ, I truly didn’t know how special it was to have the bay so close it only took a five minute bike. Or, if I fancied, I could visit the Atlantic Ocean which was a fifteen minute car ride.

I’ve moved away since then. However, I still visit my hometown regularly. There is so much to my town then just the sights.
The sticky salty sea air is thick and warm in the summertime. The smell is briny, sweet, sandy. The seagulls, well, I could leave them. But they are as much of a part of the beach as anything. There is a rumor if you wash your jeans in the ocean water it will soften the denim. Truth? Not sure. But it is a romantic idea.

Which is what my Delmara shawl is all about.
This is a top-down fingering weight shawl worked with two colors and two unique borders. You’ll like this pattern if:

460 yards fingering weight yarn in “A”

We used Manos Del Uruguay Alegria (445yds/100G skein 75% Merino, 25% Nylon): Colorways: Nickel (A) and Euphoria (B)

• US Size 5 (3.75mm) 32” (81.28 cm) or 40” (101.6 cm) circular needle
• 2 stitch markers
• a tapestry needle

Gauge
16 sts, 28 rows = 4” in garter stitch (knit every row) on US Size 5 (3.75mm) knitting needle after blocking. Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.
