Der Querdenker” (maverick, literally, “sideways thinker”) is an asymmetrical shawl featuring short rows in the Swing-light™ technique. No prior experience in this technique and no special vocabulary knowledge are required - every row is written out with detailed explanations and ample photographs.

Three yarn options are given in the pattern. For every option, two stitch markers will be needed in addition to needles and yarn, one red and one blue one.

Option 1
Yarn: 150 g [5.3 oz] La Doro by Ferner (lace yarn) in color 6, 100% wool, yardage 300 m [328 yds] per 50 g
Needles: circular needle 3.5 mm [US4], 150 cm [60 in] long.

Option 2
Yarn: 400 g [14 oz] Glanzpunkt by Atelier Zitron, 60% silk, 40% Modal (Tencel), yardage 300 m [328 yds] per 100 g [3.5 oz], in the following colors: 200 g [7 oz] col. 8014, 100 g [3.5 oz] col. 8014, 100 g [3.5 oz] col. 8023 and for the black yarn, an additional Lurex binder by Lanartus was used, 25 g [0.9 oz] Galaxy in color 106 at a yardage of 340 m [343 yds] per 25 g [0.9 oz]
Needles: circular needle 3.5 mm [US4], 150 cm 60 in] long

Option 3
Yarn: MC 300 g [14 oz] My Softy, 100% merino wool, yardage approx. 300 m [328 yds] per 100 g [3.5 oz], (hand-dyed by me, with a non-repeating color gradient), plus 50 g [1.8 oz] contrasting solid color
Needles: circular needle 4 mm [US6], 150 cm [60 in] long

This shawl can also be made from various remnants – if you choose this option, look for visible contrast between the short row sections and the rest of the shawl.

If you downloaded this before the English version was uploaded: Go into your Ravelry library and search for Querdenker, it should be the last one added. If you see a green update button for Querdenker, press it. If you don’t see a green update button, delete the pattern from your library, then go back to the pattern page and choose “add to library”.

How to use the coupon code: After you click “buy now”, you will see the regular checkout screen, and it will look as if it were taking you to Paypal. You’ll see a table showing “Querdenker” and the original price. Below this table is a button you can click to use a coupon code. It is best when you copy this code directly from the pattern page, just the word without the parenthesis.

Help! My PDF file doesn’t open / I get an error message “this file is damaged”!
If you were able to apply the coupon and download the pattern, but got an error message that it could not be opened, which can sometimes happen if your PDF Reader program is older, use the newest Adobe Reader Vs. 11. Sometimes, there also might be problems when you try to open on a device other than a computer. Try whether this happens to the German version, too, on your device. Delete the pattern from your library (make sure to delete German and English), then press “add to library” again from the pattern page and download again. If you have a public library nearby, access your Ravelry library from there and have the librarian help you print out the pattern for you. (You don’t need all the colored pictures in the last pages.)

Please note: There a a few few photos missing in the current English version, but I wanted to upload it anyway so you can take advantage of the promotion. A new English version will be uploaded later - the instructions will stay the same, it will just have more photos. Meanwhile, if you want to look at all the photos, please download the German version.
